    Preliminary investigation of Tribulus terrestris (Linn. 1753) extracts as natural sex reversal agent in Oreochromis niloticus (Linn. 1758) larvae

    Five pairs of brood stocks of Oreochromis niloticus (average weight of 350 ~c 25.8g) in a ratio of 1:1 male to female were used for the fry production to examine the prospect of utilization of safer and natural extract (Tribulus terrestris) as sex reversal agent in tilapia population control. Four hundred and fifty day-old fry were randomly distributed into 18 experimental tanks (30 litres capacity) representing five test diets (50% crude protein) containing varying inclusion levels of Tribulus terrestris extract at 0.0, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5g per 1kg of basal feed while diet six contain 50mg per 1kg of basal feed of 17-a-methyltestosterone (MT) served as the control diet. The growth performance parameter indices measured were Mean Weight Gain (MWG), Food Conversion Ratio (FCR) and Specific Growth Rate (SGR). At the end of the study, the survival rates and sex ratio were also measured and recorded. Data collected were subjected to 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) where significant means were tested using the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at p = 0.05

    Performance Review of Selected Topology-Aware Routing Strategies for Clustering Sensor Networks

    In this paper, cluster-based routing (CBR) protocols for addressing issues pertinent to energy consumption, network lifespan, resource allocation and network coverage are reviewed. The paper presents an indepth  performance analysis and critical review of selected CBR algorithms. The study is domain-specific and simulation-based with emphasis on the tripartite trade-off between coverage, connectivity and lifespan. The rigorous statistical analysis of selected CBR schemes was also presented. Network simulation was conducted with Java-based Atarraya discrete-event simulation toolkit while statistical analysis was carried out using MATLAB. It was observed that the Periodic, Event-Driven and Query-Based Routing (PEQ) schemes performs better than Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), Threshold-Sensitive Energy-Efficient Sensor Network (TEEN) and Geographic Adaptive Fidelity (GAF) in terms of network lifespan, energy consumption and network throughput.Keywords: Wireless sensor network, Hierarchical topologies, Cluster-based routing, Statistical analysis, Network simulatio

    Rapid Assessment of the Water Chemistry of Public Water Supply in Abeokuta, SouthWest Nigeria

    The study examined the water supply situation in Abeokuta, with emphasis on the quality of water distributed by the Ogun State Water Corporation from the treatment plant of the Abeokuta Water Scheme. Water samples were collected from standpipes (taps) across the city randomly selected using the stratified random sampling method and was analysed for physical and chemical parameters: pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), total alkalinity, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, nitrate, bicarbonate, sulphate and chloride. The result of the physical and chemical parameters was subjected to statistical analyses using the multivariate t-test. The result of the treated water was further compared with the result of the analyses of raw water obtained from the source of water used in the treatment plant

    Interface protocol design: a communication guide for indoor FANET

    The present and the future routing protocols in relation to the high throughput requirement, adaptivity to fast-changing link topology and speed makes the choice of routing protocol for unmanned aerial vehicle communication important. Due to this fact, an efficient routing protocol is highly dependent on the nature of the communication link. A flexible solution that presents these features is the use of light fidelity as a communication medium. Therefore, this paper presents the design of an interface protocol for indoor Flying Ad-hoc Network specific routing protocol using light fidelity as a communication link. The interface protocol governs communication when UAV move in a swarm. The architecture, the state machine model is discussed in this paper. Results of the design are validated via simulation using the NS3 in terms of packet delivery ratio and throughput

    MIMO Detectors: A Comprehensive Performance Analysis

    Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are increasingly becoming popular due to their ability to multiply data rates without any expansion in the bandwidth. This is critical in this era of high-data rate applications but limited bandwidth. MIMO detectors play an important role in ensuring effective communication in such systems and as such the performance of the following are compared in this paper with respect to symbol error rate (SER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR): maximum likelihood (ML), zero forcing (ZF), minimum mean square error (MMSE) and vertical Bell laboratories layered space time (VBLAST). Results showed that the ML has the best performance as it has the least Symbol Error Rate (SER) for all values of Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) as it was 91.9% better than MMSE, 99.6% better than VBLAST and 99.8% better than ZF at 20db for a 2x2 antenna configuration., it can also be deduced that the performance increased with increase in number of antenna for all detectors except the V-BLAST detector
